High Definition Event - Beaconside, Stafford
Panasonic Broadcast and Quadrant Visual Solutions recently held a High Definition Television Day in the Staffordshire University Television Studio on the Beaconside Campus. The event was organised by C-MAT member,
Peter Hughes. Visitors were from the independent and education sectors.
The day consisted of a number of presentations by Panasonic, followed by a question and answer sessions. There was a High Definition screening and an opportunity to look at High Definition products. Panasonic demonstrated their range of High Definition cameras including the new P2 tapeless series.
Examples of High Definition material was screened on the Panasonic 103 inch 1080p HD plasma - the largest display screen available. These included the BBC production 'Planet Earth'. Also shown was a short HD film, shot and edited for Panasonic by Staffordshire University Film Technology Lecturers Andy Paton and John Bradburn.
Staffordshire University Television Centre
Staffordshire University has invested in a new build £850,000 full broadcast standard SDI studio and facilities on its Beaconside, Stafford campus.
The broadcast quality Television Centre was officially opened by the Her Majesty the Queen in 2007. A student production team covered the visit live using a Steadicam and four static cameras, with the output streamed off the university website.
During their visit The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh had the chance to view and talk to students about their work.
The three camera SDI studio has a 100 sq metre broadcast standard studio floor. The studio area has a thirty lantern grid, chromatte and drapes with tiered seating for 120. The facility includes a comprehensive racks room, gallery, green room, audio and lighting rooms.
Live studio output can be recorded or encoded and streamed directly to the web.
